Chiefs DE Allen Chalks Up Another NFL DUI

Is there anywhere I can pass out?Kansas City Chiefs defensive end Jared Allen was charged Friday with driving under the influence after a police officer pulled him over for driving erratically earlier this week, police said.

Leawood Police Capt. Dale Finger said police pulled Allen over around 1:30 a.m. Tuesday after following a Dodge Charger that was not staying in the lane.

Finger said Allen, who was alone in the car, refused to undergo sobriety testing and to take a breathalyzer test, so the officer placed him under arrest for DUI.

This is the second NFL player this week who has gotten a DUI. Cincinnati Bengal Odell Thurman also landed himself one earlier this week.

SportsRx: Game Of The Week

We can spell!!!Top-ranked Ohio State (4-0, 1-0 Big Ten) visits the No. 13 Hawkeyes (4-0, 1-0) Saturday night in one of the most anticipated events in the 78-year history of Kinnick Stadium. The game has been sold out since well before the season started, and tickets on eBay were going for as much as $500 a pop as of Wednesday morning.

The Buckeyes' impressive win over Notre Dame in the 2006 Fiesta Bowl, along with the return of QB Troy Smith and flanker Ted Ginn Jr., helped cement Ohio State's position as the preseason No. 1. The Buckeyes haven't disappointed so far, posting wins over Texas and Penn State and holding opponents to an average of eight points a game.

The Hawkeyes also have kept up their end. Iowa is off to a 4-0 start, just its second under eighth-year coach Kirk Ferentz. After a string of lackluster Septembers, the Hawkeyes are positioned for a run at a BCS berth, and maybe more, if they can upset the Buckeyes

This matchup will attract plenty of attention, especially considering that only one other game Saturday, No. 11 Virginia Tech against No. 24 Georgia Tech, will feature two Top 25 teams.

The Hawkeyes dismantled the Buckeyes in '04, 33-7, but the Buckeyes had a rout of their own in '05 with a 31-6 win in Columbus.

Tyson Fighting Exhibition Tour For Money

I'll knock you out in 30 seconds! Former heavyweight boxing champion Mike Tyson will be fighting on an exhibition tour to ease his way out of financial troubles.

"I think I'm useless to society. I don't think I'm worthy of the people who come out to see me, but they do."

On Thursday, the man who vowed to eat Lennox Lewis' children and bit off a piece of Evander Holyfield's ear seemed accepting of his current position and emphasized he's in no mood for a comeback.

"The best decision I ever made was to retire from boxing. Because I don't have any stress. I'm pretty simple. I like the person I am now more than I did. I don't like 'Iron Mike' -- I like Mike Tyson."

"I want to have fun because during my boxing career I was too damn serious. That was my problem, I took myself too serious," Tyson said, comparing his younger self to Terrell Owens, the talented but problem-plagued Dallas Cowboys receiver.

T.O. : "If I can't trust my own trainer, I can't trust nobody."

I love myself!Ahhhh......The drama continues for Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens, he has apparently fired his personal trainer for revealing too much of T.O.'s personal life.

James "Buddy" Primm, Terrell Owens' personal trainer, said Thursday that the Cowboys wide receiver had relieved him of his services and was no longer speaking to him.

"He shouldn't have been telling you anything about my personal life anyway," Mr. Owens said. "That's where it stops – right there. He should have never said anything remotely involving me or my personal life, especially my son or even my ex-girl."

"He is a victim of what I have fallen victim to over the course of my career," Mr. Owens said. "He shouldn't have said anything about my personal life – period. Now I really have to be guarded as far as who I talk to. If I can't trust my own trainer, I can't trust nobody."

The drama only gets better with Owens, who recently said that he had an interaction from his painkillers with his vitamin supplements. We took the liberty to research this information and we truly wonder how there was an interaction? Maybe Owens really is on anti-depressants or should be..... Check this out

Cardinals On The Verge Of Biggest Choke In MLB History

Stop the bleeding!! The Cardinals have lost 8 of their last 9 games and 9 of their last 11. On September 19th, they held an 8 1/2 games ahead of the Houston Astros in the NL Central Division. Going into tonight, they are a 1/2 game ahead of Houston and are on the verge of missing the playoffs if this continues through the weekend.

"I think if anybody had said this would've happened the last nine or 10 days, we wouldn't have believed it. But that's life," left fielder Preston Wilson said. "No one is immune from it. You deal with it."

This weekend will be make or break for the Cardinals season and could put them in the MLB record books as well.

Martinez Shut Down for the Year

Martinez: Will being viewing his stats rather than producing them.
We all know Pedro Martinez isn't what he used to be, or even what he was in April of this season.

The New York Mets learned Thursday their ace is done for the year with a torn tendon in his left calf muscle.

Instead of pitching Game 1 in next week's NL division series, Martinez will be in the early days of a four- to six-week recovery period. While surgery won't be necessary, there is no chance of the three-time Cy Young Award winner pitching again in 2006, even if the Mets make it all the way to the World Series.

This could make it tough for the Mets, who have been cruising most of the season without Martinez, to advance in the postseason. They will have to rely on Orlando Hernandez and Tom Glavine to anchor the staff.

SportsRx: Meltdown of the Week!

We're awful, let's just quit! This week's award goes to Oscoda High School in Michigan. They cancelled the rest of their season on Wednesday.

Despite pleas from players and parents, the board in the small northern Michigan district recently upheld the school’s earlier decision to end the season, saying players risked injury in trying to take on much stronger opponents.

The team has played four games in which they have failed to win a game or even score a single point.

“When you go to a game on Friday night and see a team physically dominated, those are the indisputable facts,” said coach Kyle Tobin.

Tobin, who is in his first year as head coach at the 530-student school, defended his decision to recommend calling off the season.“I have 28 years of coaching experience in high school and college, and I know the difference between a team playing bad and a team that’s unsafe,” he said.

Maybe the Detroit Lions, Cleveland Browns, Tennessee Titans, Houston Texans and Oakland Raiders should all take advice from coach Tobin.

Dodgers Pitcher Lowe Is On Fire, Literally

Dude, I'm on fire!
The Dodgers pitching staff has been on fire lately during their run for the playoffs. But on Wednesday night starting pitcher Derek Lowe was literally on fire.

In the top of the fifth inning, Lowe was standing in the corner of the dugout preparing to step into the on-deck circle. Next to his right leg was a large space heater.

Lowe was so intent on watching the game that he didn't feel the heat or smell the smoke. Then teammate Matt Kemp saw his polyester pants leg burning, and cried out." He said, 'Dude, you're on fire,' " Lowe recalled. At first, Lowe thought he was just being complimented on his pitching." Then he said, 'Literally,' " Lowe said.

Lowe jumped away from the heater and the flames subsided but not before the fire had burned holes in his pants and socks. With his teammates in stitches, Lowe ran into the tunnel and changed into a new pair of pants that Mitch Poole, the Dodgers clubhouse manager, had rushed into action.

Lowe is supposedly autographing the pants and socks and could auction them off for charity.

Chargers Safety Kiel Arrested by DEA....FOR CODEINE

San Diego Chargers safety Terrence Kiel was apprehended today by the DEA for possession of codeine, of all things.

Authorities said Kiel, 25, was arrested on two charges of transporting a controlled substance and three charges of possession for sale of a controlled substance based on his having shipped at least two parcels containing the substance to his native Texas.

The DEA said in a statement released Wednesday that Kiel admitted to shipping the two parcels and to knowing their contents.

Kiel was arrested on two counts of transporting a controlled substance and three counts of possession for sale of a controlled substance. He is scheduled to be arraigned on Tuesday.

Apparently codeine based products enhance cocaine and PCP effects. Kiel has apparently been having financial difficulties even though he is making $500,000 this season.

What a day the NFL has had with it's players and pharmaceutical products....

T.O. denies attempt.

Sports Rx asks, "What the hell kind of supplements interact with pain medication?"... It would seem that protein shakes and aspirin can prove lethal... Why not step it up a notch? Try a multivitamin with you Percocet!

DALLAS (AP) - Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens denied a police report that he attempted suicide, saying he became groggy after mixing painkillers with supplements.

Owens said Wednesday the confusion likely stemmed from an empty bottle of pain medication found by his publicist, who was with him at the time and called 911. He said the rest of the pills were in a drawer.

T.O... Don't Go!

I'm so depressed!
Terrell Owens reportly attempts suicide!
AP. Dallas Cowboys receiver Terrell Owens tried to kill himself by overdosing on pain medication, even putting two more pills into his mouth after a friend intervened, according to a police report obtained Wednesday.

Owens left the hospital late Wednesday morning, giving reporters a "thumbs up" but making no comment as he was driven away in an SUV.

Publicist Kim Etheredge said in various interviews Wednesday with Dallas-area media that the police have gotten the story wrong. She said she was with Owens, who was having trouble because he'd mixed his pain pills with supplements. She said she called for help because he was becoming unresponsive....

The Dallas police report said Owens was asked by rescue workers "if he was attempting to harm himself, at which time (he) stated, `Yes.'"

The report said the 32-year-old Owens told his friend "that he was depressed." Details of the police report were first reported by WFAA-TV.

Owens was hospitalized late Tuesday because of what his publicist said was an allergic reaction to pain medicine he was taking for a broken hand. Doctors reportedly tried to induce vomiting.

T.O.... it's not worth it man. As always, we appreciate the drama, but we would miss your antics. Next time try a dose of Sports Rx instead.

Who's more dramatic Terrell Owens or Maurice Clarett????

Will Leinhart Start For Arizona This Weekend?

Leinart: Starting on Sunday? On Monday, coach Dennis Green left open the possibility of benching Kurt Warner and starting rookie Matt Leinart on Sunday against the Falcons in Atlanta.

It's probably all just false," Leinart said Monday evening at a camp for kids at the team's facility. "Kurt is the guy here. He's our leader. Obviously, not every game is perfect no matter what level you're on. But my mind-set is if I'm going to play, then I'm going to be ready to play and help this team win. And if not, then I'm going to continue to be ready.

This year, the plan was for Leinart, the 10th overall draft pick out of Southern California, to watch and learn. In a perfect world, Leinart would not take a snap this season, Green has said.

Green has had a quick hook before with quarterbacks. In 2004, his first season, Green went from Josh McCown to Shaun King to John Navarre and then back to McCown. Last season, it was Warner and then McCown, then Warner and then McCown, although injuries played a role in that situation.

Will Denny be just like the past or will he stick to his old gun Kurt Warner......

Wade and Lee Filming Converse Commercials

Let me tell you about a man named Mars Blackmon
Dwyane Wade's experience with renowned director Spike Lee was nothing like the classic Michael Jordan commercials that launched in the late 1980s. For Wade and Lee, the commercial that was shot inside Miami LaSalle High School's basketball gym Monday was less about the shoes and more about the man in them.

The commercial is for Wade's newest Converse sneaker, called WADE 1.3, and is scheduled to begin airing on Oct. 26. The ad is shot documentary style, with Wade sharing some of his inner thoughts.

It's quite the departure from last season's campaign, which showed Wade tumbling to the floor during games and featuring the proverb ``Fall Seven Times, Stand Up Eight.''
''Last year everybody saw something I was about, the falling and the basketball action,'' Wade said after the long day of shooting. 'I'm kind of sick of basketball commercials. Even Spike said, `You don't want to see the typical dunk. You don't want to see the typical crossover anymore.' What the fans want now, they want to get to know who you are. And without me getting on a TV show and talking about my whole life, I thought we would give them a snippet about the way I think when it's time for games, or what's important to me. That's something that I really stressed, and I wanted this to be a real piece.

Odell Thurman gets DUI, makes Chris Henry sick!

Does the drama ever end? Mike Brown has vouched for he integrity of his players has more than one occasion. Well at this point Mike, it's becoming quite obvious that these guys have some issues. We understand that substance abuse and domestic violence comes with the territory, but come on! Haven't Cincinnati Fans suffered enough with all your past charades? Now they have deal with young thugs! At least Chris Henry is mildly entertaining... toking herb, hurling out car windows... we might tolerate him as long he can hang on to the ball!

CINCINNATI (AP) - Cincinnati Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman was arrested early Monday on a drunken driving charge.

Thurman, already serving a four-game suspension for violating the NFL's substance abuse policy, registered 0.18 percent on a blood-alcohol test — more than twice the legal limit of 0.08 percent, according to the police arrest report.
Police said Thurman, who drove an SUV across a double-yellow line, was stopped about 3 a.m. near a sobriety checkpoint operated by police and the State Highway Patrol.

Thurman was picked up in the 3800 block of Kellogg Avenue in the East End after a Cincinnati Police officer saw him drive on the left side of a double yellow line. He was brought to a checkpoint operated by the Cincinnati Police and Ohio State Patrol and submitted to a breath test. Thurman blew a .17, which is considered a high-tier reading, said Officer Stephen Lawson of the Cincinnati Police Traffic Section. The .17 is more than double Ohio's legal blood-alcohol limit of .08.

Thurman was one of at least three players in a 2007 Chevrolet Tahoe. The vehicle is owned by Bengals rookie wide receiver Reggie McNeal, who was a passenger, said a source at the scene. Bengals wide receiver Chris Henry was a passenger and threw up out a window of the vehicle. Neither McNeal nor Henry was cited or charged with any type of violation."

UPDATE: Thurman has since been suspended for the entire 2006 by the NFL and the Bengals.

Bill Cowher lands new contract!

Terrible Towels??? Isle 8. Thanks for shopping Wal-Mart.
Sports Rx, "Thanks W.A. for the pic!"

PITTSBURGH Carson Palmer threw two touchdown passes to T.J. Houshmandzadeh less than a minute apart midway through the fourth quarter Sunday and the Cincinnati Bengals rallied for a 28-20 victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers. (AP)

Looks like Carson made his point, seeking redemption for his season ending injury sustained during their playoff loss 2005.

The Bengals lead the AFC North, 3-0... WHO-DEY???

Simms Season Over

Tampa Bay Buccaneers QB Chris Simms appears to be done for the 2006 NFL Campaign. His career as an NFL quarterback may be in jeopardy as well.

Simms, who was named the Tampa Bay Buccaneers' starting quarterback a few months before the start of the 2006 season, had his spleen removed during an emergency operation following Sunday's 26-24 loss to the Carolina Panthers at Raymond James Stadium.

He underwent a splenectomy this evening and is in stable condition," Bucs team doctor Joe Diaco said in a statement. "Chris is doing well, and we anticipate a full recovery."

Simms dropped to one knee on the field near the end of the third quarter and was walked into the locker room by Diaco. Simms was evaluated and later sent back into the game. Rookie quarterback Bruce Gradkowski relieved Simms for two plays.

How the Bucs will replace Simms is unknown. The likelihood is that Gradkowski will take over, but the Bucs have two weeks before their next game, so they have time to consider other options.

One possibility could be veteran Jay Fiedler, who was with the Bucs during training camp, but his surgically repaired throwing shoulder was not sound, and he was released.

Tigers First Playoff Appearance Since 1987

Smoke 'em if you got 'em Tigers
SportsRx would be the first to tell you that we thought the Detroit Tigers were going to meltdown and not make the playoffs. We were wrong. Last night the Tigers defeated the Kansas City Royals 11-4 and clinched their first playoff birth since 1987. Three seasons after losing 119 games in a single season.

"One-hundred-nineteen to a playoff," said pitcher Jeremy Bonderman, referencing the number of times the team lost in 2003. "Unbelievable."

At some point, someone broke out cigars, and the thick smoke clung to the spray dripping from the plastic, puddling on the floor. Zumaya held his cigar and channeled Al Pacino in "Scarface."

Will the Tigers advance past the first round of the playoffs in the American League?

Favre Throws for 400th Touchdown Today

400 Career TD'sBrett Favre today became only the second player in NFL history to throw for 400 touchdowns in a career.

He reached the milestone in his 228th game, one more than Dan Marino needed to throw No. 400. Marino finished his career with 420 TD passes. (AP)

The Packers got their first win of the season today. Beating Detroit 31-24. Favre threw for 340 yards and 3 TD's today, who said he's washed up?

U.S. Gets Trounced at Ryder Cup

We own you U.S.Europe 18 1/2, United States 9 1/2. The United States lost it's third straight Ryder Cup to Europe on Sunday. Europe humiliated the U.S. all weekend in the tournament as evidenced by the beating they took on the last day.

There's no doubt who owns the Ryder Cup and not just the shiny gold trophy.

"I don't know in the history of the Ryder Cup any European team that has played better than you guys," U.S. captain Tom Lehman told them at the closing ceremony Sunday after his American team endured its worst beating ever in the 12 singles matches.

This is the pinnacle of my life," said Ian Woosnam, a former Masters champion and once No. 1 in the world.

Bong This!

I have a plan for America, bong more beer! Sen. John Kerry still hasn’t mastered the art of faking an interest in spectator sports. Last weekend in Iowa he told a reporter he was rooting for both Iowa and Iowa State in their football game - an improvement over his 2004 references to “Manny Ortiz” and “Lambert Field.”

Alas, Kerry was caught by a Des Moines Register photographer posing with a tailgating female fan at that Iowa-Iowa State football game. She was holding a “beer bong” - an upgrade on the old chugging technique of turning the can over, popping a hole in the top and then opening the pop top to allow gravity to transfer the 12 ounces into one’s gullet instantaneously.

He could have used a few of these during his campaign for the presidency. It would have been a whole lot more fun to see him struggle even more with a few cold ones in him.

Luck of the Irish

We're SO Lucky! The Notre Dame Fighting Irish lived up to their nickname last night. They rallied from 17 pts down in the second half revenging the flag planting incident of 2005, in a 40-37 victory at Michigan State. They also avoided losing to Michigan State for the 8th time in 10 meetings.

"At halftime, the players realized the season was starting to fall away from us," Irish coach Charlie Weis said. "Everyone could feel the same thing. What's it going to be? Are we going to be a bunch of also-rans, or are we going to come out and give us a chance to win the game?"

Notre Dame struggled the entire ballgame and looked terribly ineffective offensively. In the end, though, 19 fourth-quarter Irish points erased Notre Dame's early struggles.

We guess it's just the luck of the Irish.....along with a severe choke job by the Spartans.

Has Boston Had Enough Of Man-Ram?

Nobody go into the bathroom for about 35 or 45 minutesHave Red Sox fans had enough of Manny Ramirez's antics yet? Last night Ramirez missed his 22nd out of 30 games since he removed himself from the August 21st slaughter against the Yankees.

In 2011, when Manny Ramírez will be 39 years old, he will start to receive the first installment in 16 years of deferred payments. The checks that year will total slightly less than $2 million, and by the year 2026, when Ramírez will be 54 and the checks are scheduled to amount to $2.043 million, Ramírez will have collected close to $32 million in deferred payments, or twice the current payroll of the Florida Marlins.

Do you suppose that 20 years from now, Ramírez will feel even the slightest bit of remorse for the way he quit on his Red Sox teammates in 2006, refusing to honor the code that is an article of faith for Jason Varitek and Mike Lowell, Curt Schilling and Coco Crisp, Trot Nixon and Alex Gonzalez, and Mark Loretta -- even the now-departed fat man, David Wells -- that you do all within your power to play hurt.

The Red Sox have tried to move Ramírez before, with owner John W. Henry perhaps the management figure most reluctant to cut ties with the slugger. The Sox are not talking publicly about this.

Bonds Future Uncertain

Bonds: Covering something up?
There is no certainty that Barry Bonds will be in a Giants uniform during the 2007 season.

The 42-year-old Bonds would like to finish his career in the city where he's spent the last 14 of his 21 big league seasons. Yet he repeatedly has said his future is in the hands of the Giants.

Did you read the quotes that I'd like to stay at home? That hasn't changed," Bonds said of next year, which likely would be his final season.

I'm not at an age where I can pick where I play," he said. "If you want me, call me. ... I don't even know what I'm going to do. Right now, I'm going to wait until the offseason, take care of my family and talk to my son and my wife. They're the ones who are iffy, not me."

Barry is 22 home runs away from all-time leader Hank Aaron. If he doesn't get a chance to break the record next season, it appears he may have a career after baseball!

Suspended Official Working Another Stoops Game

Dave Cutaia: Draws another Stoops gameJust when you thought the controversy over last week's Oklahoma-Oregon game might subside, it was confirmed Friday that the referee who was suspended after that game is scheduled to work tonight's USC-Arizona game in Tucson.

Arizona is coached by Mike Stoops, brother of Bob, whose Oklahoma team suffered a 34-33 loss to Oregon that created a mini-furor in college football and led to the suspension of a Pacific 10 officiating and instant replay crew.

According to Pac-10 associate commissioner Jim Muldoon, the one-game suspension for members of last week's field crew had to be staggered throughout the season so the conference had enough officials to cover its games.

The criticism here is that not only did the PAC-10 say they were going to suspend the officials, but then they are saying they didn't necessarily mean the next game. Also, the fact that he is officiating a game with another Stoops involved is a bit bizarre if you as us. Could there be some Deja vu for the Stoops Family?

SportsRx Games Of The Week

This will look good, right about here Two teams will be looking for revenge this weekend. Ohio State and Notre Dame.

The #1 Buckeyes fell to Penn State last season and will be looking for some revenge this week at The Horseshoe.

Notre Dame will be looking for paybacks against Michigan State and the famous flag planting incident after the Spartans 44-41 overtime victory in South Bend. Not only that but the Irish will have to prove to the polls that they can bounce back from last weeks hammering by Michigan.

Weis vowed revenge, if not publicly, privately. Smith insists that Weis said the Irish "will never lose to Michigan State again on my watch" during an alumni function. Weis said he doesn't talk to anyone other than his family during the offseason, yet he never denied making the statement.

"I had heard that, yes," Smith said. "I think we all heard that, didn't we?"

Asked if he had heard that Weis would be using Michigan State's flag planting act as motivation, a sardonic Smith replied, "Good for him."

Last year's act on Notre Dame's turf has only recharged a rivalry. Our pick Notre Dame 42-38.

Is This Really How Eagles Fans Tailgate?

Philadelphia Eagles fans were pretty hardcore, considering they are the only NFL team in history to have had a jail in their stadium, when they were a Veterans Stadium. Is this the new generation of tailgaters at Lincoln Financial Field?

Girardi Done in Florida

Girardi: getting a raw deal? Florida Marlins manager Joe Girardi is most likely not going to be back for the 2007 campaign.

On a scale of 1 to 10, Girardi's chances of returning next year are "zero," according to a source who has spoken with the Marlins' front office.

"I don't think there is any chance," the source said.

With two years left on his contract, Girardi would be owed an estimated $1.5 million if no other club picks him up. The Cubs, expected to part ways with Dusty Baker, have been mentioned as a possible destination.

The last straw for Girardi, 41, apparently was his ill-fated decision to bring back prized right-hander Josh Johnson after an 82-minute rain delay at Dolphin Stadium on Sept. 12.

Girardi will surely find work elsewhere, especially if he wins the NL Manager of the Year Award. He's managed to take a team with 22 rookies and a $15 million payroll close to the playoffs this season.

Lebron Sits With Warren Buffet

Bron BronCavaliers star LeBron James had lunch with Warren Buffet today, who is said to be the second richest man in the world.

It doesn't seem as odd as it may appear for these two to get together. James has told the media he would like to be one of the richest men in the world.

It's estimated that James has about $150 million in endorsements and that doesn't include his basketball salary, all while being only 21-years old.

What's the Score?

Richt Should Stay at UGA

Should stay at UGA! University of Georgia coach Mark Richt addressed the media regarding allegations that he has an "out in his contract for Miami".

Thursday it was reported by the media that such a clause existed for specifically Miami. Current coach Larry Coker has been under fire after the 'Canes have gotten off to a 1-2 start.

"There is nothing in there," Richt said after Thursday's practice. "There is no clause.

"And even if I had no buyout, I am not leaving unless Georgia throws me out of town."

Our thoughts are Richt should stay at Georgia. They have nicer facilities, more of a loyal fan base that travels very well, and he's loved at UGA.

There are only two attractions to Miami for Richt, one is that it would be easier to win a national title there than at UGA. The SEC is the toughest league to get out of the regular season undefeated and to the national title game. Secondly, money talks and if it's offered it can persuade a lot of people.

Free The Birds!

We want YOU Angelos! About 1,000 Baltimore Oriole fans left during the fourth inning of last night's game a Camden Yards in protest of owner Peter Angelos.

The fans - many wearing black T-shirts with "FREE THE BIRDS" in white lettering - streamed into the stadium before the afternoon game chanting, "Sell the team!" and "Pete must go!" in a demonstration to voice their displeasure with club owner Peter Angelos.

The event was staged by a Baltimore radio DJ in protest of the Orioles 9 consecutive losing seasons under Angelos. The O's last made the playoffs in 1997. (photo/Baltimore Sun)

Chad Johnson would later go on to say something along the lines of: if he were on defense he would like to hit someone that hard if they talked as much trash as he does.

SportsRx Meltdown of the Week

This video is a few weeks old, but it never received the award since we weren't live for about a week. It contains UNLV head coach Mike Sanford "melting down" in protest when his team lost a 16-10 game against Iowa State in Ames, Iowa.

He is protesting a touchdown catch that was ruled out of bounds by officials and cost UNLV the ballgame. Coach Sanford in the video bumrushes the field from the officials locker room area to apparently protest the game. He kept his team on the field for about 15 minutes before finally realizing nothing was going to happen.

Sanford's actions are priceless, landing him The SportsRx Meltdown of the Week Award.

Reporters Who Refuse to Testify Against BALCO and Bonds Going to Jail

Livin Large San Francisco Chronicle reporters Lance Williams and Mark Fainaru-Wada published a series of articles and a book based partly on the leaked transcripts of the testimony of Bonds, Jason Giambi and others before a grand jury investigating the Bay Area Laboratory Co-Operative, a Burlingame-based nutritional supplement company exposed as a steroid ring two years ago.

The reporters agreed with the government that they are in contempt of court, but had sought a "nominal monetary fine" and other punishment "short of full blown incarceration," including house arrest and weekend jailing, according to court documents.

The Chronicle reported that Bonds told the grand jury that he believed he was using flaxseed oil and arthritic balm, not steroids, supplied by trainer Greg Anderson, one of five defendants convicted in the BALCO scandal.

The integrity of the media continues to go down the drain along with that of Barry Bonds. It's as if people are fearful of their lives if they testify. It will be interesting to see if the truth in this issue is ever told.

Bobby Knight Speaks About Oklahoma Debacle

That's how I roll!!!Texas Tech basketball coach Bob Knight said Oklahoma fans now knows how he felt after his team lost a game at OU three years ago when a late-starting clock gave the Sooners extra time to score a game-tying basket.

Knight called for Oklahoma to forfeit its basketball game with Texas Tech on Jan. 20, 2003, when the Sooners won 69-64 in overtime after two clock controversies in the final seconds of regulation. Video replay later showed the game clock started late after the Sooners in-bounded the ball on the game-tying possession.

"Maybe now those people at Oklahoma understand what I was talking about," Knight told The Oklahoman for Thursday's editions.

"Had Oklahoma forfeited that game against us like I suggested, they would have gotten far more positive publicity out of that than if they had gone to the Final Four that year. Now I guess the 'duck' is swimming in the other pond."

This further confirms why SportsRx loves the man, the myth, the legend Bobby Knight. Not only does he tell you the way it is, but he is classic in his postgame interviews and press conferences. That a'way Bobby! That's what we like to see out of you!

Seattle...... We Can't Hear You!

WOOOOO!!! The NFL will be monitoring the sound at Qwest Field this Sunday. This will allow the New York Giants to leave their earplugs at home this week. That's because last season the Giants were flagged 16 times at Qwest Stadium and looked completely rattled by the "12th man".

Apparently the NFL feels that their is some artificial noise going on at the stadium and that the amount of noise generated in that venue can't be all from Seahawk fans. The fact is the Seahawks are 24-4 at home since 2003.

Rumors of such shenanigans have been swirling since the building opened four years ago, although no one has found any proof.

Someone, however, suspects Seattle's "12th man" has help because the NFL notified both teams this week that it will be watching and listening closely. NFL rules state any noise "that is under club control must cease when the play clock is running and the visiting team is in possession of the ball." The league fined the Washington Redskins $20,000 for violating that rule in 2000

Cheering and making noise is part of the game. What are Seahawks fans supposed to stand there and give a "golf clap" everytime there's a great play or the Seahawks play defense? We say, MAKE SOME NOISE!

Zach Randolph: Charges Dropped

I'm so tight! Charges of sexual assault will be dropped against Portland Trail Blazers starting forward Zach Randolph.

Back on August 11, 2006 prosecutors found that Randolph offered to pay two women $500 to simulate sexual acts with him in a Portland hotel.

Because of a three-day delay in the complainant's reporting of the allegation, investigators had no forensic or medical evidence and faced contradictory statements from witnesses who were intoxicated the night of the incident, according to a three-page memo from the district attorney's office.

Another Blazer in trouble, you don't say? You can take Randolph off that list....for now.

Soldier Winslow Speaks Again

Gimme the damn ball! Cleveland Browns tight end Kellen Winslow, Jr. lashed out to the media on Monday regarding the play calling of the Browns staff . Winslow was wondering why he isn't on the field on 3rd downs and that the Browns coaching staff should "unleash it", referring to the play calling.

“I don’t mean to try to go behind their backs or whatever, but we’re 0-2. Let’s go, let’s air it out, let’s run the ball, let’s make plays, let’s be exciting.”

It’s very frustrating,” he said. “We’re losing and I’m not on the field. And I just don’t get it.”

Head Coach Romeo Crennel addressed the media today regarding Winslow's comments, needless to say he was not a happy camper:

“I’m the head coach and I’m the guy that calls the shots, and if he’s got displeasure with the shots called, he should come and address them to me first,” Crennel said.

Romeo also went into detail that Winslow did mention something to him during the Browns 34-17 loss to the Bengals on Sunday, and Crennel told him that it was not the appropriate time for the discussion to occur.

Winslow has had a very limited career so far with the Browns. He was sidelined with a broken leg his rookie season that occurred during an onside kick. In 2005, he was in a motorcycle crash which caused him to miss the entire season with multiple injuries.

Should Winslow be so quick ask for the ball? After all, he doesn't exactly have the track record to change his name to Mr. Reliability........

Giambi to Torre About A-Rod

Yankee Feud? Yankee first baseman Jason Giambi apparently suggested to Joe Torre to get tough on third baseman Alex Rodriguez . I guess Giambi and his teammates didn't feel that A-Rod was playing up to par. He is quoted in detail about his remarks in this weeks Sports Illustrated.

It wasn't a situation where there was malice or anything," Giambi said. "It was just trying to find anything to help him out. . . . I don't want to make it sound like we were fighting or angry. By no means was it supposed to come off mean."

Last time we checked Giambi stats (.250, 36, 109) and salary ($20.4 mil) are comparable to Rodriguez's (.286, 34, 116/$25.6mil.). Giambi has been slammed by the media for allegations of steroid use in the past. Could Giambi be trying to channel the media off his back and onto Rodriguez......

Coach Stoops Can't Let Go!

We Got Robbed! The Fat Lady has been singing for five days now, but apparently University of Oklahoma field general Bob Stoops just won't let the it die. He continues to rant over the terrible officiating in Eugene, OR this past weekend.

"We can't sit here and say OK," Stoops said. "It's unacceptable and inexcusable, to them (the players) and to us, because we can't get it back, and they earned it. That's the hard truth of it, and now our situation is severely altered."

Coach Stoops, it's been five days, the game isn't going to be overturned. Like the entire nation, we believe that they blew the call and you were robbed, but there is nothing that can change the outcome at this point. We think it might be time to chalk it up as an "L".

Oklahoma president David Boren, who wrote Big 12 commissioner Kevin Weiberg and requested, among other things, that the conference request that the game "should not go into the record books as a win or a loss by either team in light of the level of officiating mistakes." That's not likely to happen anytime soon Mr. Boren.

Tiger's Pissed

This does Nordegren no justice STRAFFAN, Ireland (AP) -- Tiger Woods was outraged Wednesday at an Irish magazine and a tabloid that linked photos of his wife to various pornography sites, and his agent was studying the merits of a lawsuit....Inside the tabloid, it reprinted photos of Nordegren in a bikini, along with a nude photo of a woman purported to be Nordegren. Woods vehemently denied it was his wife when it first came out three years ago...."It's ridiculous," Steinberg said from IMG headquarters in Cleveland, Ohio. "I can't say much now because of prejudice, because I'm not sure what we'll do in the future. Everyone knew it (the nude photo) wasn't her. It's plain as day. You can see it's not factual. It's kind of ironic they bring it up this week."

SportsRx feels for you Tiger... but really, don't act surprised. They're just trying to rattle your game.

We've tried to say good bye, "Peace Maurice", to former OSU RB Maurice Clarett but it seems that he also inspired SI to compose a collective Famous Athletes Who Went to Jail. Included are favorite household names: Dwight Gooden, Darryl Strawbery, Mike Tyson and, our favorite, Art Schlichter! Thanks Maurice.

369 career jacks SportsRx: Today in Sports History

On September 19, 1949 Ralph Kiner became the 1st National League Baseball Player to hit 50 home runs twice. He did it in 1947 and 1949. He only played 10 major league seasons hitting 369 career home runs before retiring due to back problems. Only Babe Ruth and Mark McGwire are ahead of Kiner's ratio of 7.1 home runs per 100 at-bats.

50 years later, Chicago Cubs right fielder Sammy Sosa became the first player in MLB History to hit 60 home runs twice. Although a superior feat to Kiner's, he may have had some assistance on that one.

Gimme the taser!
Another Tasered Athlete

We can't help but laugh at these football players that are running around commiting crimes and getting tasered as they flee or resist arrest.

The latest "victim" is University of Central Florida cornerback Travonti Johnson. Apparently Johnson was screaming obscenities at police after being arrested and tasered by an Orange County Sheriff's Deputy outside a Denny's Restaurant.

The report said Johnson then made profanity-laced "statements about Orlando being racist" and that it was only after repeated attempts to ask Johnson to leave the restaurant that he complied.

With the officer trailing behind them, Johnson allegedly continued making profane comments, this time directed at the officer. While Johnson yelled, the report said, the two other men attempted to pull him away, but "Johnson would yell louder and pull away from his friends."

After being informed twice that if he didn't leave the area he would be arrested, the report said Johnson continued to yell profanities and was told he was being placed under arrest. When the officer attempted to arrest him, Johnson attempted to run. The report said he made it only about 20 feet before the officer used his Taser to subdue Johnson. (Sun-Sentinel)

Johnson was suspended immediately by UCF for four games. Should he be booted off the team, and/or added college footballs "Most Wanted List"? It's not as if he plays at Miami, FSU or Florida. He probably won't have an NFL career after UCF, which appears to be over. If he would have, he certainly won't now. (photo/UCF football)

SAY WHAT?! George to Start?

With Aaron Brooks sidelined for two to four weeks, will Jeff George play or possibly start? Are the Raiders in that much trouble that it could be a possibility? Oakland has a bye on week 3 so we will have to see when they host the Cleveland Browns in week 4.

Our thoughts, if Jeff George starts, the Browns could have a field day, since he hasn't thrown a pass in the NFL for nearly 5 seasons. We're calling it now, Browns 28-9, but only if George gets the nod. Who would of thought that Jeff George would play in the NFL again? (Photo: Aaron Kehoe/ US Presswire)
The Griese Era or the Rex Effect??? WAA WAA WAA WAA WAA WAA WAA WAA WAA!
R-E-X

The roll call of top passers on Sunday was a veritable who's who of the NFL's elite QB class: Peyton Manning, Carson Palmer, Donovan McNabb, Brett Favre, Eli Manning, Rex Grossman, … wait, Rex Grossman? For the second consecutive week, the Rex effect was hitting on all cylinders, producing 289 passing yards and 4 TDs in a dismantling of a Detroit defense that everyone was lauding after it held Seattle to nine points in the opener.

After two weeks, Grossman ranks first in the league in passing TDs and fifth in passing yards – this from a guy that everyone, save the Chicago coaching staff, wanted benched in favor of Brian Griese during the preseason. Now, it can certainly be argued that the Bears haven't faced the stiffest of competition yet (Green Bay and Detroit), but, to be honest, they don't face that many pass-tough defenses moving forward, either.

Thanks Brandon Funston, "The Rex effect", of Yahoo Sports
Mets Win First NL East Crown Since 1988

For the first time in 12 years the NL East Champion is not the Atlanta Braves. While, October and the World Series is just around the corner for MLB there is a new champion in the NL East, yes it's the New York Mets.

The Mets became the first team this season to clinch a playoff berth and can prepare for their first postseason appearance since 2000, when they won the wild card for the second straight season and lost to the Yankees in the World Series. The Mets are likely to meet St. Louis, Los Angeles or San Diego in the first round, starting in the first week of October.

Similar to 2000 there could be a Subway Series between the Yankees and the Mets. The Mets currently have the best record in MLB (91-58). Can they ride this momentum to the championship?

Jags 9 Steelers 0 Domination

In the lowest scoring game in Monday Night Football History last night, the Jacksonville Jaguars owned the defending Super Bowl Champion Pittsburgh Steelers 9-0. Josh Scobee added three field goals as the Jags defense shutout the Steelers for the first time since 2003.

Some other notes of interest, the Steelers were held to only 26 yards rushing and only had possession of the football 22:35. Also, the Steelers never made it past the Jaguar 46 yard line for the entire game. Big Ben looked extremely rusty coming off having appendix removed only 15 days prior to last nights game.

Standing on the sideline, watching our defense go at them, it was like watching a heavyweight fight," said Fred Taylor. "I mean, how could you not get excited, really? Our guys just whipped them. Whipped them bad. Those guys on defense, they were playing for real, man."

The Jaguars will try and do the same to Peyton Manning and the Colts next week. They are coming off a 12 win season in 2005, before losing to the Patriots in the playoffs last season. Are the Jacksonville Jaguars for real in '06?
Quinn: Looked Rattled
WOW!

We see that two things were apparent this Saturday. Brady Quinn will not win The Heisman Trophy and the media and coaches were far too kind to the Notre Dame Fighting Irish before this Saturday's game vs. Michigan, by ranking them #2 in the nation.

We posted at the beginning of this month that we felt that ND was a bit overrated after barely defeating Georgia Tech 14-10, and this only proves our point. Not only did Notre Dame get beat badly, but it was right in front of "Touchdown Jesus" on their home turf.

Quinn threw 3 interceptions on 24-48 for 234 yards and three touchdowns, as the Irish got absolutely hammered by Michigan 47-21. They looked so flat in this game that they played like the Notre Dame of Ty Willingham more than the Charlie Weis Era Irish. They also made Lloyd Carr and a Michigan team coming off of 5 losses in 2005, look like an NFL team. It was a very painful game to watch unless you are a wolverine fan. Mario Manningham, had only 4 catches for the Wolverines.....oh yeah but 3 of them were TD's and gained 137 yards on those four catches.

The new polls came out today and now Notre Dame has dropped to #12 in the AP Poll and #13 in the USA Today Poll, while UM is up to #6. The Irish schedule is very favorable, including play against all three military academies, they should win out until they travel to USC late in the season.

Say it ain't so Pete!!!

I bet on baseball kiddiesPete Rose has got some balls..... and he is apparently selling them for a $1,000 each in an auction.

Baseball's all-time hit king, banned from the game in 1989 for betting on baseball, has signed basballs with a confessional inscription: "I'm sorry I bet on baseball -- Pete Rose," the New York Daily News reported.

Apparently Robert Edwards Auctions acquired the balls from the estate of a recently passed away New Jersey Businessman, Barry Halper.

There are about 30 up for auction, but it is believed that 40 to 50 are currently on the market.

Pete, you don't have to remind us that you belong in Cooperstown. Is there no limit as to what he will do to plead his case?

UPDATE:

Baseball's banished hits king signed the baseballs for some of his friends about a year ago, but didn't want them put up for sale, according to business agent Warren Greene. "These guys are collectors. Pete signed for them," Greene said, in a phone interview. "Pete made zero dollars for signing them." The baseballs say "I'm sorry I bet on baseball" in block letters, with Rose's autograph directly below. Greene didn't know who suggested the inscription.

It appears that our boy Pete has been swindled. Didn't he ever learn never to sign anything that he fully read and understood?

What Good is Instant Replay?

Calgon, take me away!
Peace Maurice!

Troubled former athlete Maurice Clarett took a plea bargain this morning in Columbus and will spend at least the next three and a half years of his life in the prison. He agreed to plead guilty for aggravated robbery and concealed weapons charges.

The deal called for a 7 1/2-year sentence with release possible after 3 1/2 years. The 22-year-old player also agreed to serve five years of probation after the prison sentence.

This is a classic case of "Penthouse to Outhouse". Five years ago, he was one of the most highly publicized running backs in college football, now we won't hear about him for at least another five years. We say PEACE MAURICE!

Ryder Cup doomed again?

Ian Woosnam and Tom Lehman will captain Europe and the U.S., respectively, at the upcoming Ryder Cup. (Andrew Redington/Getty Images)
STRAFFAN, Ireland -- The Americans arrived for the Ryder Cup about three hours late Monday, which captain Tom Lehman attributed to bringing too much luggage on the charter plane.

Considering how these matches have gone lately, he can only hope it wasn't emotional baggage. Having lost four of the last five times, the Americans will try to beat Europe on its home soil for the first time since 1993 when the Ryder Cup gets under way on Friday at The K Club.

Another ominous sign?

Not long after the U.S. team arrived, a weekend of gorgeous weather gave way to a downpour that drenched the golf course, making the chipping green look like a wading pool.

Tiger Woods and Jim Furyk arrived separately after losing in the first round of the HSBC World Match Play Championship last week at Wentworth. Woods stayed in England, attending the Chelsea-Liverpool game on Sunday, while Furyk came over to The K Club to practice. (AP)
