Mets Win First NL East Crown Since 1988

For the first time in 12 years the NL East Champion is not the Atlanta Braves. While, October and the World Series is just around the corner for MLB there is a new champion in the NL East, yes it's the New York Mets.

The Mets became the first team this season to clinch a playoff berth and can prepare for their first postseason appearance since 2000, when they won the wild card for the second straight season and lost to the Yankees in the World Series. The Mets are likely to meet St. Louis, Los Angeles or San Diego in the first round, starting in the first week of October.

Similar to 2000 there could be a Subway Series between the Yankees and the Mets. The Mets currently have the best record in MLB (91-58). Can they ride this momentum to the championship?
