What Happened to Pat Burrell?
The Philadelphia Phillies are sitting Pat Burrell, and it hasn't been for just one day, it's been 14 since the All-Star Break.
Recently, 40 year old Jeff Conine has been replacing the 29 year old Burrell in the field. Who would have thought? Burrell had a bad year in '04, bounced back in '05 hitting .281, with 32 homers, and 117 RBI's. However, Burrell is hitting a dismal .213 with runners in scoring position and has been looking at called third strikes more than Cleveland Indian Casey Blake.
The Phils have been trying to unload Burrell since last winter and couldn't get any deals finalized before the deadline this season. Burrell does have a no trade clause in his contract with the team and has a hefty $27 million left on that deal, which makes it tougher to find a team that will absorb that hit.
Surely, if he keeps riding the pine Burrell will have to waive his no-trade clause sooner or later, regardless if he wants to remain in Philly or not. (photo/phillyburbs.com)
