Five UConn Football Players Booted For Buying Beer?

UConn coach Randy Edsall said Monday he had kicked five players off the team as it prepares for Saturday's game against Army in East Hartford.

Gone are defensive end Harold Stanback, safety/linebacker Ricky McCollum, wide receiver Nollis Dewar, wide receiver Todd Dorcelus and linebacker Carl Teague. Dorcelus and Teague are freshmen who hadn't played.

The school called it the standard "violation of team rules" while the team was in Tampa last weekend. The players said it was for buying two six packs at a gas station across the street from a team hotel.

Two six packs — and they were never opened. The players, according to one, were confronted on the way back to the hotel by recruiting assistant Carl Kotz, asked what was in the bag, said there was nothing and later had their rooms searched. The beer was reportedly found, unopened, and that was it.

We don't know what's worse.....

The fact that they got kicked off the team for buying beer that was unopened? Or that they bought Heineken and Corona and NOT Natural Light, they are college students, where do they get that kind of money?

Apparently, UConn must be paying their players, and it seems to be very well we might add.

This is so juvenile. These are grown men in college for craps sake! As long as they maintain their work ethic on the field and in practice, who cares if they bought, or even had, a beer or two or twelve! Now if the freshmen guys are underage that's a little different.

These guys bust their ass on the football field, yes they do get a free college education out of it, however, the fact that it was five players and 12 beers, totally unnecessary to kick them off the team for this. Can anyone really get drunk off two beers?
